Learn by working on a real building project for 2 weeks
We are proposing ‘Learn and Build’ workshops for people who are more interested in practising and learning by doing. Participants will work on several steps of a real project over 2 weeks. The objective is not to complete the building in 2 weeks, but to give enough time and opportunity to practise, observe and reflect on different aspects of the construction. Prior experience or a background in construction is NOT required.

What is the difference between a Course and a “Learn and Build workshop’?
Our courses (e.g. ‘Earth Building in Practise’) usually combine classroom and hands-on sessions. They are suitable for people who want to learn some simple theory, discuss several relevant topics (thermal mass, passive cooling etc), and are available for less than one week. They include practising the learned techniques on demonstration walls.
Build a Adobe & Cob house
Dates: 15-25 February 2020 (20th: day off)
This 11 days workshop will help you to build a round-shape earth building by yourself by using two techniques: Adobe (earth bricks) and Cob. The load-bearing walls will support a green roof. You will practise several steps with the other participants, under the trainer’s guidance:
- Making cob walls (4 days)
- Making earth bricks (Adobe) (2 days)
- Laying Adobe bricks (1 day)
- Doors and windows (1 day)
- Plastering walls (1 day)
- Plastering walls (finishing coat) on another building (1 day)
Explanations and information will be taught before each step (1 or 2 hours).
Fee: 10,600 baht/person (approximately 305 euros, 340 USD) including instruction, accommodation, all meals during the 11 day workshop, pick-up and drop-off at the Chiang Rai airport or bus terminals.
The ‘Learn and Build’ workshops will be held at our centre, 25 kms south of Chiang Rai, and will have a maximum of 6 participants.

We can pick up participants the day before the workshop begins at Chiang Rai airport or at the bus station and will give you more details by email. To know how to get to Chiang Rai, click here.
We will provide you with:
- a simple accommodation in a tent and a comfortable mattress (or a mattress and mosquito net in our dormitory)
- an area with hammocks and mats to relax in the shade
- an area to play volley-ball or badminton
Wifi and 220 V electricity are available.
All meals will be vegetarian food with some meat and fish options.
We ask all participants to refrain from any illegal drug use or excessive drinking in our centre.
